There are so many things that you need to consider when you are shipping products to another country. One of the most important aspects that you should think about is the custom crates that you use to ship the goods. Did it pass the ISPM standards is one question that you need to consider seriously? As you contemplate the benefits that come from using the crates that hold the ISPM stamp, you will understand the importance of using it to ship your products.

Clearing the Customs:

Only a manufacturer who abides by all the policies set by the ISPM get the permission to stamp the crates with ISPM stamp. Customs usually do not allow shipments that do not have these stamps. They might sometimes ship it back to the country that sent the goods.

Preventing the Bugs:

Bugs is one of the biggest problems, and many countries try to stop them from entering the country as eradicating a bug will cost a fortune in most cases. Almost 85 countries in the world have embraced the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No.15 or as it is just called ISPM -15 mainly to ensure that only goods that are bug-free arrive in the country.

This regulation especially applies to wooden products both the hard and soft wood. While there are several types of stamps, the one that is primarily famous is the wheat stamp that provides country code, facility code and a treatment code which shows the kind of treatment that is carried out on the ISPM certified shipping crates. It will help the customs clear the shipment faster.

Types of Treatment:

There are two methods of treatments that the company need to carry out on the custom shipping crates, and these are essential to get the ISPM stamp. One of it is heat treatment, and another one is the fumigation method. While in the heating process wood is heated to an approximate 56 degrees in Celsius to make it pest resistant. When the custom shipping crate is heated, it is important to carry a mark as DH. While in the fumigation methods, they spray the chemical gas around the custom crates with an intention to kill the bugs on them. The custom crate companies should use Methyl Bromide which is recommended by ISPM.

Delay in the Product Delivery: You should be well aware that in the customs they stop all custom crates that do not go through the treatment process and do not allow the containers to enter the country unless they are treated and receive the needed stamps. This whole process might take much time and can quickly spoil the product that is in the crate or might cause huge loss to your finances with shipment not reaching the destination in time. It might also ruin the trust or the brand image that your product carries.

Keeping these things in mind, it is important to only ship products using ISPM certified shipping crates to avoid all the unnecessary hassles that you might have to go through.
